The Physician-Emergency Medicine provides comprehensive medical care to patients presenting with urgent and emergent conditions within the Stony Brook Southampton Hospital network. The physician collaborates closely with physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nursing staff, and other clinical professionals to deliver high-quality, patient-centered emergency care.

Job Functions:

• Provides health care to patients including assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up in accordance with medical standards and organizational protocols.
• Performs detailed medical histories and physical examinations.
• Orders and interprets appropriate laboratory tests, imaging studies, and diagnostic procedures.
• Develop and implement patient treatment plans based on clinical findings.
• Provides patient education regarding diagnoses, treatment options, and preventive health.
• Instructs and counsels patients and families on therapeutic regimens and follow-up care.
• Prescribes medications and treatments in accordance with NYS regulations.
• Documents examinations, clinical decision-making, and progress notes in the electronic health record.
• Provides referral letters and coordinates care with specialists as needed.
• Supervises and collaborates with physician assistants and nurse practitioners in the emergency setting.
• Participate in shared night, weekend, and holiday coverage as scheduled within the group.
• Ensure HIPAA guidelines and patient confidentiality standards are always maintained.
• Performs additional duties as assigned by department leadership or supervising physicians.
