Position Summary
The Infusion Registered Nurse (RN) in Hematology/Oncology is responsible for delivering high-quality, patient-centered care to individuals receiving chemotherapy, immunotherapy, blood products, and other infusion treatments. This role requires clinical expertise in oncology nursing, strong critical thinking skills, and a compassionate approach to patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, blood products, and supportive infusions in accordance with physician orders and established protocols
- Monitor patients during treatments for adverse reactions and respond appropriately to emergencies or complications
- Perform comprehensive patient assessments, including physical, psychosocial, and educational needs
- Access and manage central lines (e.g., PICC lines, ports, and central venous catheters)
- Educate patients and families on treatment plans, potential side effects, symptom management, and home care instructions
- Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, pharmacists, and multidisciplinary team members to coordinate care
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR)
- Ensure compliance with oncology safety standards, including safe handling and disposal of hazardous drugs
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and continuing education activities
