Job Summary:
The role of the clinical embryologist is to create, manipulate, and care for human embryos during in vitro fertilization treatment. Clinical embryologists perform andrology and embryology procedures commensurate with their level of expertise and training. Promotion to levels 1-4 are approved according to the training schedule outlined in the Standard Operating Procedure Manual. Communicating with the rest of the healthcare team including doctors, nurses, medical assistants, laboratory technologists, and administrative staff as well as answering patient concerns when necessary.
Essential Job Functions All Levels:
- Perform all duties and tasks assigned for operation of the embryology laboratory each scheduled workday
- Work within a multidisciplinary team to identify patients’ care requirements, focus on their needs and act on them
- Rotate weekends and holidays as necessary
- Establishes personal rapport with patients
- Provides explanations of procedures and testing methodology
- Nurture a compassionate environment by providing psychological support
- Ensure chain of custody is followed for every specimen
- Performing daily and periodic maintenance of all laboratory equipment
- Operating all laboratory equipment within the manufacturers guidelines
- Makes necessary measurements and calculations
- Handles samples and reagents with good aseptic technique
- Documents results utilizing our electronic medical records
- Participates in proficiency testing at least 2 events per year in embryology
- Analyzing technical information
- Become familiar with and follow standard operating procedures
- Maintain licensure and certification as required by law
- Travel to other sites when necessary
- Identify opportunities for process and quality improvement for patient flow
- Provide excellent customer service
